Industrial environments requires TRUE RMS measuring instruments!

Non-linear loads arising e.g. from motor drives with adjustable speed, frequency converters or mains supply units for office equipment and LED lamps generate a reactive power in the mains. As a result, multimeters and current clamps working with the so-called averaging measuring method ("RMS") will display the measured values with reduced accuracy.

In many cases and particularly in industrial environments, it is therefore absolutely necessary to use state-of-the-art "TRUE RMS" measuring instruments. The "TRUE RMS" measuring method indicates the actual effective value of an alternating current correctly - irrespective of whether the signal waveform of the current is sinusoidal or distorted.

Habe das MM 12 als präzises Allzweckmultimeter für Messungen sowohl im Niederspannungs- als auch Kleinspannungsberech in Verwendung.

Das Gerät ist robust und hochwertig, die Verarbeitung weist keine Mängel auf. In Puncto Sicherheit gibt es keine Bedenken, die Absicherung der Eingänge ist passend gewählt, was anderes hätte ich von einem Gerät unter der Marke Benning auch nicht erwartet.

Die Bluetooth-App (Android) ist schlicht und zweckmäßig, ohne viel Schnickschnack. Die USB-Verbindung ist ein virtueller serieller Port (9600 Baud 8N1) mit einem Protokoll, dass dem Voltcraft VC950 sehr ähnlich ist. Die beiliegende Software funktioniert, ist allerdings nur für Windows verfügbar. Das Protokoll lässt sich durch seine Ähnlichkeit mit dem VC950 (da ist die Interface Dokumentation v1.2 online auffindbar) recht einfach herausfinden und in eigenen Anwendungen verwenden.

Das Gerät wird von APPA gefertigt und wird auch als "APPA 506B" vertrieben. Es ist in Bedienung und Aufbau grundsätzlich sehr ähnlich wie die übrigen Geräte der 500er-Reihe, die ebenfalls unter verschiedenen Marken erhältlich sind. Verwandte Geräte aus der gleichen Serie mit teilweise anderen Funktionen und Schwerpunkten sind z.B. das CMT 3503, Voltcraft VC 950 / 930, HT-Instruments HT 8100, etc., allesamt von APPA gefertigt.

Die Software des Multimeters wirkt ausgereift und hat keine erkennbaren Probleme oder Fehler. Alle Einstellungen funktionieren solide wie erwartet.

Die Anzeige reagiert sehr schnell und ist angenehm in der Ablesung. Die Messwerterfassung bei Widerstands- und Kapazitätsmessung ist schnell, die Durchgangsprüfung reagiert durchschnittlich schnell aber nicht langsam, überreagiert nicht und kratzt nicht. Die automatische Displaybeleuchtung ist sehr Nützlich und schaltet sich in aller Regel sinnvoll zu.

Die Umschaltung der Messbereiche und das Erreichen des stabilen Anzeigewertes geschieht sehr zügig, Instabilitäten bei der Messwertdarstellung konnte ich keine feststellen.

Die Präzision des Multimeters ist hervorragend. Die Genauigkeitswerte des Handbuchs und im Kalibrierzertifikat werden sauber eingehalten. Die im Handbuch angegebene Genauigkeit wird meiner Erfahrung mit dem Gerät nach i.d.R. deutlich übertroffen, das zeigt sich immer wieder bei Messungen gegen den Kalibrator. Bislang ist die Kalibrierung stabil und zeigt keine nennenswerten Abweichungen.

Die Bedienung ist realtiv intuitiv, das Handbuch ist im Prinzip nicht notwendig. Das MM 12 hat undokumentierte Funktionen: Enter gedrückt halten beim Einschalten zeigt die Software-Version, A HOLD gedrückt halten beim Einschalten führt einen Display-Test durch.

Das Auslesen von AC/DC-Stromzangen funktioniert einwandfrei.

Das MM 12 eignet sich besonders dann, wenn man genaue Messwerte über weite Spannungsbereiche benötigt und eine entsprechend gute Messkategorie erforderlich ist. Bestimmte Funktionen (z.B. Duty Cycle, Messungen von Frequenzen _100kHz, etc.) sind auf dem Gerät dafür nicht vorhanden, irgendeinen Kompromiss muss man immer eingehen.

Kaufentscheidend war für mich in Summe die hohe Genauigkeit, Anzeigeauflösung und hervorragende Anzeigegeschwindigkeit, die Möglichkeit, Messungen per Bluetooth zu überwachen und die allgemein sehr günstige Kombination an Funktionen und Sicherheitsmerkmalen bei Messungen über ein großes Spektrum an Spannungen. Die automatische Displaybeleuchtung ist eine Funktion, die ich nicht mehr missen möchte.

Alles in allem ein ausgereiftes, gelungenes Gerät, dass man gerne benutzt.
